eh, you kids and your DFW crush.

Hey did I read that you turned 29 this year (back in April?). I'll be 29 in about 3 weeks. For some reason, I always imagined you were older...

that's March to you, Luke.
but, at the current rate I will be dead before getting a PhD.

Me too. At least we'll have a chance of getting hired if we're dead. ...I think.

What is your ph.d. in? Literature? I can't recall that you ever told us?

By the way, have you noticed how many excellent bloggers are right in the 29-30 age cohort: Yglesias, Kotsko... I'm sure I can find others.

That's true.
Sorry to be vague; when I said I'd be dead first I literally meant that I'm not in a program. I'm a builder. Maybe those two things can co-exist sometime, however...

Well that just means I didn't completely misread your blog for years at a time. Years ago, I worked for a small concrete company, then later as a mechanic working on hydraulic lawn mowers. So while its great that I'm in grad school, i miss the tactile pleasure of building real things in the world. Most of the abstraction of philosophy is no doubt because the writers can't do drywall or change their own oil.

Right. Although in fairness both seem to have no trouble gesticulating wildly at parties, or anytime.

Which is, of course, what really matters.
